I was reading an old 1908 (thus public domain) issue of the Pullman Herald newspaper. This image is from an ad for California Fig Syrup. The frame was so cool and ornate that I just had to include it with the image of the woman. Would work good for an infobox or something. Enjoy!
I don't remember all the details about this (the description disappeared!) but I do remember that this was a woman who disguised herself as a man in order to fight in the civil war.
A woman gets a massage. The message is this woman got a massage. This was quite a quick little sketch some staff artist in Los Angeles scratched out real quick for page 40, way back in 1907. I wonder how many people actually noticed the image then? Will it have more views in it's reincarnation?
